2013 Shanghai International Conference on Matrix Analysis and Applications

2013 Shanghai International Conference on Matrix Analysis and Applications, organized by the Department of mathematics of Shanghai University, was held in the Expert Building of Shanghai University on 27-29, December. The opening ceremony was chaired by Professor Qing-Wen Wang, the dean of Department of Mathematics of Shanghai University. Professor Li-Yi Shi, the director of Shanghai University scientific research office, delivered the opening speech.

More than 110 experts in linear algebra and matrix theory from China, Brazil, Iran, Japan, USA attended this conference. Ferguson Professor of Mathematics Chi-Kwong Li from College of William and Mary, former Vice president of the International Linear Algebra Society, gave the keynote talk. The chair of Mathematics and Statistics Department of Auburn University Professor Tin-Yau Tam, Professor Li-Qun Qi from Polytechnic University in Hong Kong, Professor M.S. Moslehian from Ferdowsi Unveristy of Mashhad, Iran and other 8 famous mathematicians made plenary talks. Professor Mikio Nakahara from Kinki University, Japan, Professor Zhen-Yue Zhang from Zhejiang University, Professor Zhong-Zhi Bai from China Academy of Sciences, Professor Yun-Feng Cai from Peking University and other 25 domestic and foreign famous experts in matrix theory gave invited talks. The conference was colosed successfully in the afternoon of December 29th.


This conference made the participants to deeply know the latest research results in linear algebra and matrix analysis and their application in statistics, computer science, artificial intelligence, control theory, information theory, image processing and other areas. The conference promoted the academic exchanges and cooperation among peers, and also provided opportunities of interaction and learning for young scholars.


The conference is very significant during the construction of Shanghai first class disciplines---Mathematics. The conference played a positive role to further promote exchanges and cooperation between Shanghai University and the domestic and foreign counterparts.
